Cemetery Lament

Maybe I'm just a sucker for folk/Nordic inspired black metal, but when it's done as well as what Haljōrūna is offering who can argue with it. An interesting mix of clean and black metal vocals with a slow driving beat to the music really sets the mood for their entire Midvinterblot album.  Midtvinterblot by Haljōrūna By far my favorite track on the album is Urds Kjelde but the rest of the album isn't lacking in any regard. The marching beat of this track blended with the keyboards and drums is a perfect merger of folk and metal that few bands nail as successfully as  Haljōrūna. I've said it before and I will say it again... One of the most amazing things about a site like SoundCloud is how it brings artists from around the world into contact with one another so they can pool their evil genius into a dark opus that would have otherwise never happened. If you've been following the blog for a while you are probably familiar with names like  Tahazu , Skyggefigurrer and Belzebut who have all been featured on Cemetery Lament at one time or another. Each of these artists have put out a mass of incredible work individually but when you bring their talent together you end up with... well you end up with Ordo Malum an EP of blackened brutality that can only be born in the true underground black metal scene.  Living half a world apart the trio didn't seem to have much trouble pulling this project together with each of them contributing their own unique talents to create a single cohesive vision of darkness that oozes from each of the six tracks....

Sometimes it's hard to find a band in the prog/deathcore scene that is doing something unique. Eventually things start to all sound the same and honestly it gets a little dull. Then there are groups like Vultures Above Us. Head over to SoundCloud and give these guys a like/share. I'm a little disappointed in MotherWood (from Americana, Brazil) but it has nothing to do with the quality of their music. I'm disappointed they only have two fucking songs right now!!! Whatever you are doing right now stop... I SAID STOP! and listen to MotherWood because this is some amazing music right here. Just so everyone knows I have already sent these guys a message to find out the status of the band and if they will be releasing a full album in the future. No worries I got ya covered.

The most awesome thing about Belzebut (aside from the kick ass music) is the fact that many of the tracks feature other underground artists from around the world. You don't just discover one amazing artist but you get to explore the creative minds of several at the same time. Belzebut....Black, dark, atmospheric music from Romania featuring Tahazu  from the United States. Be sure to check out both of these guys. You wont regret it.

I'm going to be completely honest... Whenever someone describes their music as "experimental" I can't help but cringe a little. Experimental usually only ends up one of two ways... It's something completely new and different taking the genre deeper into uncharted waters... or... it ends up more like a Human Centipede experiment and you feel like somebody just shit in your mouth. As luck would have it AnKou, a one man project from France is definitely the better of your two option and is offering a unique take on ambient black metal. I'm a big fan of artists who make use of instruments, sounds or styles that aren't generally found in traditional black metal. I'm an even bigger fan of artists who do it with as much skill AnKou. The following track from his SoundCloud account interested me right away and after listening to a few of his other offerings I had to give him a quick shout out.
