Death Notice ~ Kawir

Image
IRON BONEHEAD PRODUCTIONS is proud to present KAWIR's highly anticipated seventh album, Exilasmos, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats. Since 1993, KAWIR have been one of the unsung pillars of the classic Greek black metal sound. While the names Rotting Christ, Varathron, and Necromantia are incredibly important to that style's foundation, it was KAWIR who kept the faith during the '90s and into the new millennium. In 1994, the then-young band released two pivotal 7"s, Eumenides and a split with Japan's Sigh - on the pivotal Cacophonous Records, no less - and then followed those up in 1996 with the To Cavirs MLP, which is the first truly pagan-oriented record to hail from the Greek black metal scene. With that mini-album, KAWIR set about on a Hellenistic crusade to celebrate their native gods and mythology in their lyrics and sartorial presentation. From the late '90s onward, the band continued to remain prolific, perpetually committed to fine-t...

Vile Tyrant ~ Unto Wrath Be Given (Video)

Image
A few months ago ( all the way back in May actually ) I featured Vile Tyrant here on Cemetery Lament. You can check out the original feature here . So you can imagine I was pretty fucking pumped when I checked my email today and found that the boys from Utica NY had sent me a link to their new music video and asked me to check it out... Which of course I did... and true to Vile Tyrant form I was not disappointed.  Much like their EP Consummation of the Black Arts , the video for Unto Wrath Be Given is a high quality masterwork of black metal. As I pointed out in the original feature, Vile Tyrant's production quality is as good (if not better) than many bands that have signed with "major" labels.  But don't take my word for it. Watch the fucking video and have your mind blown. Be sure to check out Vile Tyrant at the links below and follow them on Spotify and YouTube as well.  www.facebook.com/Viletyrant viletyrant.bandcamp.com soundcloud.com/...

The Devil's Cradle by Tero Ikäheimonen

One of the (many) perks to being a world famous black metal blogger {{citation needed}} is that you get free shit from all kinds of publishers. Usually I get promo downloads or links to pre-release albums to check out, but every so often I get something really bad ass like a full PDF download of a book such as The Devil's Cradle and I think to myself, "damn I've made it to the big time! But I digress... Over the years there have been a shit load of books published on the subject of black metal. While some of these are far better than others, I think it's important to document the black metal scene and it's "roots" from as many viewpoint as possible be it from the bands involved or those who were instrumental in helping establish the genre. For the most part much of black metals history seems to revolve entirely around the more well known pioneers who established the foundation of what is (or isn't) black metal today. But at times it seems as ...

Death Notice ~ Grave Spirit

Image
Grave Spirit was spawned in the earliest days of 2017, born from the mind of BW and slowly put together during the early months of the year. After the writing was underway and early recording of the guitar work began in earnest, ES was recruited on drums, and TG joined the project on bass. The Beast Unburdened By Flesh was summoned in the summer of the same year as Grave Spirit's creation, and now comes to horrify the world with tales of the mythical, both living and undead. Its primary foundation is the eternal fire of black witching metal, but here suffused with the ghastliness and dread of eldritch death metal. Its powers are simple yet profound, and between these two tracks, Grave Spirit mark a more-than-promising start to terrorizing souls worldwide.
